When I moved to CT, my first (and fabulous!) local friend Jill introduced me to the Hartford chapter of Dress for Success. I joined her one evening for a Tiara Tuesday event and met some of the wonderful women that volunteer with this incredible non-profit. From there I did the volunteer orientation, started helping as a personal shopper in the evenings, met more friendly, sweet and amazing women and also got involved with working backstage at their annual fashion show called the Capital Catwalk!!
I love every minute of volunteering with Dress for Success. I love to shop, pick out outfits and style them up. At Dress for Success I get to do those things while helping local women. And it is more than just picking out an outfit. It is about helping women feel confident and strong. It is about empowerment. It is about feeling good on the inside and matching that on the outside.
Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help them thrive in work and life.
When I last volunteered, I took some photos of the Dress for Success "boutique" here in Hartford. Suits of all sizes, bright and colorful tops/blouses and stylish accessories filled the room. I wanted to share this inside look with you all for many reasons: To inspire you to get out there an volunteer with your own local chapter of Dress for Success. To remind you to donate your gently used (or new!) items. (always call ahead to your local chapter to see what they are accepting) To motivate you to host a fun girls night and have all of your guests bring an item that can be donated to Dress for Success. Spread the word. Get involved. Volunteer and/or donate and have fun doing it!
Getting involved is easy! Are you a CT gal? If so, click here! And join us if you can for the TENTH ANNUAL CAPITAL CATWALK on June 8th at the Hartford Stage! I will be working backstage, my first year as "Leader"!! (Yay, so excited!)
Not in CT? No worries! Click here for information on how to locate your local chapter!
